Synopsis

Daniel Hopkins thought he knew what he was letting himself in for when he joined the top-secret UNIT organisation as its latest Medical Officer.

Racing about the countryside, chasing strange lights in the sky? Check. Defending the realm against extraterrestrial incursion? Check. Frequent ear-bashings from UNIT’s UK CO, the famously no-nonsense Lt-Col Lewis Price? Check. Close encounters of the First, Second and even Third kind? Check, check, check.

But he had no idea what alien beings were really like. Until the day of the Fallen Kestrel. Until the day he met the Doctor.

Previous Story: The Kingmaker

I love a good U.N.I.T story and this certainly fits the bill. It's not anything that remarkable but it's got a really good mystery running throughout with a pretty satisfying resolution. I also enjoy seeing a competent U.N.I.T that doesn't get pushed around by random organisations. Blake Harrison was pretty good as Daniel Hopkins and has nice chemistry with Peter Davison, I'm keen to see more of him. The idea is also quite interesting, if a bit disturbing. I struggle to say much more about it beyond the fact that it was pretty good, it didn't bore me and it had some cool ideas.
