There's parts of The Final Amendment to like, such as the inclusion of the character Kadiatu Lethbridge-Stewart. It's a fun bit of world-building to have a descendent of the Brigadier, it makes enough sense, and she is a fun enough character. Benny and Jason are also pretty fun, and I do like an angle in this story where a legion of clones of various individuals from Summerfield's life wind up attacking her. That leads to an impressive number of characters and cameos showing up, including the Doctor itself. As this is some sort of Anniversary special for Benny, this all feels quite appropriate. What isn't so appropriate is a rather unpleasant story all about racism and incest. It's gross. I did not have fun with Fiona Dickens and her son, and that's about as much as I care to get into it. You can deal with dark and serious themes, but not in a laid-back, celebratory clone story. The tone of this one is all over the place and it doesn't really work, in my opinion. It's basically an inferior version of the audio story Many Happy Returns. Fans of Bernice Summerfield will find fun in The Final Amendment, but also will likely be side-eyeing a lot of content, too.
