Synopsis

PRIMER FOR THE SPIRAL POLITIC (POST-WAR EDITION)
1: FACTION PARADOX

Era: Non-specific.
Technology: Post-linear (subtle), time-active.

Even before the outbreak of the "War in Heaven", Faction Paradox was regarded as the most unpredictable (and opportunistic) of the time-active powers. Aware of the precarious nature of history -- but under no obligation to protect it -- while the other Great Houses were still attempting to uphold a "universal order", the Faction was following its own, far more ambiguous, protocols. Ruthless, secretive and at times difficult to understand, it's hardly surprising that the Faction should have eventually found itself under siege from its rival powers...

The Eleven Day Empire is my first foray into Faction Paradox. The story is interesting, and kept my attention for the whole piece. They established just enough of the world so I wasn't completely lost, but left enough of it unexplained so that I am interested in learning more.

The characters seem interesting, with mystery as to true motives etc. The voice acting was solid, with not a bad actor in the bunch.

I'm excited about continuing my first foray into Faction Paradox. The world they have presented so far reminds me of the paranormal Victorian era tales that I have read.

JUSTINE: What did you mean, "I can't go through this again"?

ELIZA: What?

JUSTINE: It's what you said before. When the time-ships came.

ELIZA: Christ. You've got a good memory, haven't you?

JUSTINE: Only for things that seem important.

ELIZA: Yeah. Well. I've seen it happen before, you know? Before I came here. I used to live in a city a lot like this. Different world. Different time. Different universe, come to think of it. Same thing happened, though. One day, the sky just opened. And that was it. That was the end of it all.

JUSTINE: The Sontarans?

ELIZA: God, no. One of the other Houses. Tore up all the cities. Turned most of the people into worker-drones. That was the way I found out about things. About how the universe really works. About the Houses running it all from behind the scenes. I was pretty much the only person who got away, so... you can see how I ended up here. You know what the family's like for picking up hopeless people. No offence.
