Synopsis

Jo Grant is shocked to find most of her colleagues are missing. Then she discovers that the Doctor has inexplicably changed.

But there's little time to worry about it all, as she and her misplaced Time Lord friend are whisked to the mysterious Delphin Isle on a matter of national security. There, they encounter a disturbingly odd form of local hospitality and learn of a highly classified incident that took place during the Cold War.

Why exactly have they been brought here? And what is the truth concerning the bodies in the harbour and the vast project being undertaken under a cloak of secrecy?

Following the chronology, this is the first Main Range after the 7th Doctor leaves Ace in the Cretaceous Period 🦕🦖😂

Honestly, "The Defectors" is worth more for the wonderful chemistry and dynamics between Jo Grant and the 7th Doctor than its story itself. The audio has quite a promising start, its first part presents a very interesting idea of inserting McCoy into an arc à la "Pertwee Era" with that typical and well-known investigative tone surrounded by military (even the opening of the 7th was replaced by that of the 3rd Doctor), we have some very funny scenes of the Doctor and Jo in a pub trying various foods and drinks which taste quite bad (their reaction is very funny haha), ending with a cliffhanger that draws a lot of attention where we see several inhabitants of Delphin Island apparently dead floating in the lake.
From here onwards, its plot becomes veeery bland, nothing so engaging, surprising or exciting, even the cliffhangers are quite dull.
Anyway, I don't have much to say about this story, I think the McCoy and Katy duo deserved a better plot, especially considering the beautiful performance presented. Don't get me wrong, "The Defectors" is not a bad or terrible story... No, it isn't... Even though it's quite regular, it's still far from being a disposable audio.
