"This whole wedding is like making a nuclear bomb with half the instructions missing!"

A week-long respite from a prolonged and bloody war, the Festival of the Twin Moons of Tuin makes Glastonbury look like a church fete... or so the brochure says. The Doctor and Ace are looking for rest and recreation. Hex is looking for the beer tent. But eternal enemies the ginger-haired Ri and the coot-bald Ir are plotting to turn their Festival truce to their own advantage. Only the Dark Husband might stop the celebrations turning to horror... but who is the Dark Husband? And what terror awaits him on his wedding night?

If anyone knows any just cause or impediment... speak now. The lives of billions depend on it.

Previous Story: Nocturne

I'm surprised to see this one as hated as it is. It was no masterpiece but I had a good time with it and there were some really genuinely good moments. I can see how some people might find a bit too ridiculous. There is also absolutely a case to be made that Hex was badly written here. There's a fairly drastic difference in how he acts here compared to how he acts in just about every other story and I can see how it would be off-putting.

Aside from that fairly big issue I really liked the whole stuff with the two species and the sentient planet. 7's characterisation is quite interesting here and it really leans into his more manipulative side with him deciding to end a really long war seemingly on a whim. Fun story but probably not if you care deeply about Hex's characterisation (and that's really the main thing bringing it down for me).

This review contains spoilers!

Here is yet another disastrous audio from the 7th Doctor which presents a level of badness comparable to the horrific "The Rapture" and "Dreamtime". Once again the anti-war theme is repeated with the Doctor, Ace, and Hex looking for a quiet place to take a break – this time the destination of the TARDIS travellers is the planet "Tuin" which is undergoing a war scenario involving two species, the "Ir" and "Ri". After having more in-depth contact with the planet and the species, the Doctor decides to fulfill his duty to end the wars and bring absolute peace. Then, OUT OF NOWHERE, he declares that for this it is necessary for him to marry (????) – This random cliffhanger leads us to a continuation (a second part) composed of blocks of questions and answers from the characters challenging various things and concepts introduced, receiving answers that... It would have been better not to have asked. Despite the writer's initial comedic intentions being good, we encounter a kind of slapstick comedy giving even a preview of what “The Dark Husband” would be like typical stories that should not be taken seriously. However, as its plot progresses, we see that its numerous negative reviews are justified by the markedly low quality present in the audio – Its plot is incredibly pathetic with Ace being poorly served in the story, when the companion finally gets some focus, she is put in a ridiculous situation involving a misunderstanding where she is named the Bride with whom the Doctor will marry... Like... STOP! STOP IT NOW! Not to mention that OUT OF NOWHERE Hex starts to show he is interested in Ace with lines like... "This is one of the things that makes you perfect" like... LOL???? The two supporting aliens (Ori and Irit) are nothing more than uninteresting and annoying stereotypes, characters who repeat the name of their species in every sentence (Yes... I know you're already imagining how ridiculous this is).
In summary, do I really need to say that life is too short to waste your precious time with “The Dark Husband”??... Do I really??
