The next short trip in the above collection this slightly historical tale which is set in 1906 (nicely tying in, a bit, with the current time period of my main marathon). The Second Doctor, Jamie and Victoria arrive in a little English village at a time of New Year celebration. There's a parade and Morris dancers and a 'cutty wren' which is part of British folklore, although mainly focussed in Wales. This English village is, according to the story, the only English place that celebrates the cutty wren and this has piqued the curiousity of a local scientist called Isiah. It turns out the 'wren' is actually some sort of alien spaceship/entity thing and the Doctor and Isiah succeed in getting it back into space before being set upon by the locals. And that's all there is to it. The regulars are quite nicely written - Jamie doesn't do much, but Victoria gets to say the wrong thing and drop the Doctor right in it, which seems in character. There's a lovely opening scene where the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria are joining in the revelries as observed by Isiah which put me in mind of the closing scenes of The Macra Terror. Like Liked 0
