As an inveterate fan of the stories and especially the Lore of Peladon, it only took a few minutes for Barnaby Edwards' script to completely win my heart, and I already consider "The Bride Of Peladon" as one of my favourite audio dramas from BIG FINISH. Regarding its previous stories set in the Pertwee Era (3rd Doctor), The Bride is far from being totally disconnected from The Curse & The Monster Of Peladon, bringing with it all its characteristic elements while still being an original work, reuniting the classic lineup of Alpha Centauri, Ice Warriors, an Arcturan, and as a bonus, we meet the daughter of Aggedor. Barnaby Edwards hits the mark by delivering a plot full of excellent characters. Its narrative progression is very dynamic and easily dispels the boredom of its listeners. It is impressive how the writer has worked very well with his subplots; one can notice a clear meticulousness in how they were spread throughout the story, all of them being very unpredictable and functioning like loose threads that begin to intertwine as the story progresses, bringing surprising elements. Speaking of the plot, there is a lot to report, and with that, I will be as careful as possible not to drop spoilers – Peladon already knows its new king, Prince Pellas, a young intelligent man with pacifist ideas for his reign, he intends to fulfill his promise in making Princess Pandora Of Earth his new queen, a marriage of convenience rather than a love alliance. Traumatized by the recent death of his mother, a mysterious voice haunts and manipulates the people around him, and once again the Royal House of Peladon is threatened to plunge into intrigue, despair, and death. Zixlyr, an Ice Warrior prince and ambassador successor to his sister "Alixlyr," crosses paths with the Doctor, Peri, and Erimem, seeking to investigate the mysterious disappearance of his sister. Arktos, an Arcturan criminal, joins Elkin, a trisilicate mining supervisor, and the two plant a bomb killing all the miners in search of the substance. The Doctor becomes aware of the mysterious haunting, and in trying to stop it, he discovers that it is directly involved with a feared enemy he faced in his previous incarnation (4th Doctor). The Bride Of Peladon ends by delivering a Sad and happy farewell to a companion I loved to meet 😊, I loved her development, a woman of strong personality, travelling with the 5th Doctor brought many teachings to her breaking several taboos thus completely leaving behind her thoughts of Ancient Egypt, and the most satisfying thing is to see that Erimem began to use her thirst for power for good causes 🙂. It was a lot of fun! 😁

This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order.

Previous Story: The Mind's Eye

This story is very reminiscent of a Classic Who companion exit. It just feels quite sudden and jarring, the only reason I'm not that upset is because it was decently set up in previous stories. The actual story itself is very fun, I'm a big fan of Peladon and this is feels like a fitting return to it.

The only thing I think is a bit of a shame is the lack of any relevant political commentary. One of the things I really enjoyed about the original Peladon stories was how they mirrorred real life events involving the EU (I think it was also a big missed opportunity not to have a third Peladon story about Brexit but that's another thing).

This story also serves as a decent sequel to Pyramids of Mars, it follows similar plot beats and it finally recognises that there are more Osirans than Sutekh. It also feels right to have a companion's final story link back to their first. All in all, it's a fun little Peladon story. It's fairly high stakes but not exactly an epic end to Erimem.
