ThworPing through time and space, one adventure at a time! FIRST IMPRESSIONS: “THE BEAST OF BABYLON” The Beast of Babylon, written and narrated by Charlie Higson, is an adventure with the Ninth Doctor set during the small gap at the end of Rose (2005), during which the Doctor showcases to Rose that the TARDIS also travels in time. It’s quite a nice little adventure with a one-off companion, the clever and open-minded Alli. The best part is the moment when Nine talks about leaving Rose behind due to her commitment to Mickey. The Staran is an interesting monster, and the back half of the story, set in Babylon during the reign of Hammurabi, is a great historical setting for the adventure. The story reaches a sweet conclusion: Alli persuades the Doctor to return to Rose and invite her onboard the TARDIS, after which the final scene from Rose plays out from the Doctor’s perspective.
