This story is from A History of Christmas and is a bittersweet tale of the 7th Doctor and Ace confronting an alien demon in a church and being assisted by an anchorite. These were people who were literally bricked up in a small cell in a church; their devotion and prayer hopefully protecting the church and its congregation from harm.

It's a short tale but quite nicely written with a sad twist at the end.
