They always say "This is not a natural ability for your body form" and "There may be complications afterwards" and "Don't get carried away" they never say How was reclaiming the violence done to you Was it fun learning to fly Did you enjoy clawing that guy's face with the talons you grew?

Anyway! State of Change tries to do a little bit too much in its plot, but all in all is a really solid story. The Discworld influences are incredibly obvious, especially in the various plebian characters, but that's not necessarily a bad thing because the book did enough of its own things to not just be a rip-off. I really enjoyed the world Bulis made and I think the dynamic between the Doctor and Peri was done well
