An interesting idea and exploration of what it means to be human when you aren't, seen through the eyes of one woman caught up in a war beyond any of her imagining. The thing is, between Beth and Lisa, 100% of the Black female characters on Torchwood have had their bodies twisted into horrific new images without their knowledge or consent, and both are killed - by Torchwood! - at the end of the episode. That's a terrible track record

Another very enjoyable episode. It's great to see more humour in the series compared to Series 1. This episode does a good job at building up the intrigue of who Beth is and whether she's an alien (although wish they'd carried that on for more of the episode).

Wasn't a fan of the acting of the guy who played the sleeper agent who shot down all those soldiers though. He seemed to play it a bit camp, and as a consequence felt as though he had stepped through from a different TV Show.

I think I like the idea of Sleeper far more than the execution. It's a neat enough idea that could have been used to make something really original, but instead I don't feel like our plot was fully fleshed out.

Instead the effects feel a bit corny with the arm thing and bad CGI morphing effects. The choice to focus on one woman in particular is okay in and of itself but it winds up taking a lot of tension out of Sleeper, rather than giving us a great new perspective or something different from other content like Random Shoes. Finally, the episode's ending, while somewhat well done, felt a little unsatisfying and forgettable to me. So it's not a terrible episode - miles above Torchwood's worst, it also doesn't feel exceptional to me. Which is a shame, because I feel it really could have been something more substantial.

[Bedroom]

(Night. A noise wakes the woman up.)

BETH: Mike, did you hear that?
MIKE: Someone's in the living room.

(He puts the light on to reveal they are a mixed race couple.)

BETH: Are you gonna go in there?
MIKE: Are you?
