Project: Nirvana comes with a narrative proposal a bit outside the curve of what we are used to seeing in The Companion Chronicles line - Here there are 4 prominent voices, which could be considered a near Main Range, since usually we have the narration of just one of the characters and brief participations of secondary ones. The purpose of this short 50-minute journey is to provide a deepening, important insights into the two new companions of the 7th Doctor, helping us to solidify Sally and Lysandra as definitive characters. Lysandra, in particular, has great development, one of the most interesting moments of the audio is her encounter with her younger self where a very beautiful reflection is made on how much her personality has changed since then, the last lines of dialogue in the audio are incredibly beautiful. The plot itself is quite satisfactory, it has two distinct divisions - In the first part, we have a military action storyline, an airborne infiltration on a high-tech train moving across Romania manned by soldiers who are carrying a mysterious cargo. In the second part, there’s a creative and well-developed element whose name might grab the attention of Lovecraft aficionados. In summary, Project: Nirvana is a very satisfactory audio that serves as a great bridge linking “House Of Blue Fire” and “Black And White”, it adds more to the mythology of “The Forge” apparently enriching the arc of the “Black TARDIS” and further characterizing the two new companions. This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: House of Blue Fire What's this? An actually good Project story? One that doesn't make me roll my eyes with writing that sounds as though it's been written by a 14 year old? One that actually has something meaningful to say beyond "how many people can we violently kill in a story for no good reason"? I'm impressed. It's no masterpiece, but it's properly enjoyable. Sally and Lysandra are actually quite interesting as characters, unlike their other stories would have led me to believe. The companion chronicle format gives us some great insight into them as characters, which I really appreciate. And it's just a fun adventure in general, feels like an action movie (in a good way, as opposed to a Briggs way). I don't really like the Doctor in this but that's mainly because I just don't like this manipulative and frankly mean Doctor. The so-called "elder God" also wasn't particularly impressive. They really just let anyone be an elder God nowadays? I mean when compared to Gods like the Toymaker and Fenric, Derleth doesn't really hit the same. Still I enjoyed it, great development for the companion team and good vibes. Certainly wasn't expecting the Projects to end on a high note.
