This was Jon Culshaw’s first go as The Brig and Daisy Ashford’s first as Liz Shaw, they’re both fabulous from the jump! I love Liz Shaw very much and am a bit protective of her, so I was a little worried with the way the story was heading, but it’s John Dorney, of course he had something else in mind, and this all lands very cleanly. The sound design is great, the story has some very nice extrapolations of the ooze and the Primords. I’ve just listened to the Beyond War Games box, so it was weird switching over here and hearing Michael Troughton playing something other than the Second Doctor, because he really does sound like his dad even when he isn’t trying to. His character is nicely unhinged though. This was a really good one, storywise it does feel exactly like a missing S8 episode, and Jo has a great arc within it. Loved this! 4.25/5 OliverGreene View profile Like Liked 1 24 December 2024 · 58 words Review by SteffiJen 1 Great to discover a Liz Shaw story from Big Finish. Liz is one of my favourite companions and I'd wished she'd had a longer tenure in the TV series. Having her voiced by Caroline John's daughter here, together with Tim Treloar's Doctor and Jon Culshaw's brilliant Brigadier made the whole production feel like an undiscovered original. Very enjoyable. This story also has a pretty remarkable use of several Chekhov's Guns throughout the story. A+. Azurillkirby View profile Like Liked 0
