cool concept and moral dilemma for benny, split from the doctor for most of the story with a nice group of supporting characters. really loving benny and this doctor as characters now that i've experienced more of their stories!

One of the story’s strongest elements is its emphasis on Benny’s role as an archaeologist. Her partnership with the archivist Drolla is engaging, offering a quieter and more thoughtful approach to uncovering the truth about the Lampians. For long-time fans of Bernice Summerfield, this return to her professional roots is a welcome change of pace, contrasting nicely with the usual universe-shaking stakes of her adventures.

The methodical investigation is a highlight, showcasing Benny’s intellect and determination. This focus allows her to take center stage, with the Unbound Doctor stepping into more of a supporting role.

The Doctor, skeptical about the existence of the Lampians, spends much of the story conducting his own research. His reduced role allows Benny to reclaim the spotlight, which works well in this context.

That said, his moments are still memorable, particularly his whimsical desire to buy a hat stand for the TARDIS—a delightfully eccentric touch that brings levity to the otherwise serious tone.
