This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Revenge of the Swarm I'm not sure what this story is trying to be. It's a pretty straightforward historical (coming off the back of a long arc of ridiculously high stakes). But then it's also trying to be a comedy sometimes? It doesn't end up being all that funny and to be completely honest I checked out about halfways through. Hector got some interesting character stuff atleast, but I still don't really get the point of bringing back Hex (but not Hex). It just feels quite odd, if you've got the same voice actor why make them play a different character. Hopefully it will be resolved enjoyably but that still won't change the fact that this story is not that great. Decided to take his companions to a fun and relaxed place, the next destination of the TARDIS Team is Athens in the year 421 BC – In Mask Of Tragedy, the characters are inserted into a scenario haunted by a plague, where the leader of this Greek society is an individual mad with power. Besides the Doctor reuniting with his old friend Aristophanes, we see that Athens has become a landing connection point for aliens traveling through space and time, allowing us to meet the amusing Tyrgius who, for some, might be seen as a very silly character. But the major highlight goes to the music and sound effects which are divine - You really feel very immersed in the Greek setting with its very realistic sound effects, perhaps one of the best audios in this aspect of soundness. Something else quite cool is that we see Ace in conflict with the primitive inequality that occurred at that time, the character sees women being mistreated and not treated equally and confronts this by encouraging several characters to assert themselves. In summary, there is not much to say about Mask Of Tragedy – We encounter a filler plot that is not the best in the world, but also (in my view) is far from being the worst in the world, and from what I understood the proposal of the audio is to be a comedy while at the same time a tribute to the power of theatre.
