Perhaps it was my lack of knowledge of the original story, but I did not care for this. Working through, the Doctor and Donna did not get much agency, and were following along which eventually became tedious. And the abundance of characters Im sure would work really well for someone with knowledge and interest in the area - however, that was not me, and the story did not work well enough to introduce me to much of this.

2.5/5

While the story itself is a decent romp through Arthurian legend with great chemistry between our main characters, The Doctor and Donna have remarkably little agency in their travel: simply following along the story that’s unfolding for them for almost the entire length of the book until something happens.

Enjoyed the book for some time, until it clicked that the main characters just weren’t actually doing anything, and would continue to ride the ebb and flow of the legends.

Probably still a decent read for anyone looking for a bit of fun.

This review contains spoilers!

There are SO many good moments in this book, but Donna calling Ten her personal fool and him being so upset about pretending to be a jester was so so funny. They're so stupid, godbless.

Also I think someone should tell Ian he looks like Lancelot.
