TARDIS Synopsis The Tenth Doctor and Gabriella enter the TARDIS, with Gabriella complaining about the rain, and the Doctor arguing that the TARDIS overshot Summer. The Doctor leads her down into the TARDIS to the laundry room. Gabriella stops at the boot cupboard and asks for the purpose. The two reach the Laundry Room where the Doctor tells Gabriella how the system works and what features it has. He starts it up, forgetting that his Sonic Screwdriver is still in his jacket pocket. When they reach the wardrobe, Gabriella sees the Sixth Doctor's outfit nearby and questions it to which the Doctor replies it was the height of fashion when he wore it. As the two go through the wardrobe, a mud creature ends up coming out of the laundry system, carrying the Sonic Screwdriver and lurches through the TARDIS to the Doctor's location. Gabriella ends up screaming and as the Doctor grabs his Screwdriver the mud creature collapses. The Doctor exclaims and realises the Screwdriver agitated the dirt and mud molecules and with a low-level telepathic field, caused the mud to form into a golem-like creature. I can’t really give it a high score, it’s just 6 pages after all, but it’s an excellent bit of slice of life comedy mixed with that “Doctor Who Spark™”. Almost perfectly executed what it wants to I would almost say. To have a bit of extra background on how these two characters interact in between the ‘big’ adventures, it’s really nice. Abadzis writes them in a really natural and cozy feeling way. The story isn’t functioning as filler, but enrichment. It does extra establishing work for Gabby and Ten, and completes the fuller picture of Nick’s vision for the ‘era’. Lovely use of its format. Carlini’s art is super clean (pun not even intended) and very pleasing on the eye. She makes the TARDIS feel really homey. There’s stuff laying about, things that seemingly have been put there by the Doctor to use later, it feels lived in. Even the dirt floors and cavelike structures with strange alien lighting don’t just feel strange and alien. The lighting is warm and friendly, and the textures make it like you’re in a children’s treehouse. The underground vibes aren’t isolating, but safe. The ship isn’t just made a home narratively, but also visually more than ever. The TARDIS quirks incorporated into the plot were lovely too, as the entire thing was. Very sweet little comic. As a Doctor Who fan who really loves clothes, I can honestly say that there is a big slice of giddy wish fulfilment with this story. The idea of The Doctor taking me to his infinite wardrobe, or even his magic laundrette are the kinds of low stakes adventures that I could get behind experiencing myself!! This is an excellent comedy. I think out and out comedy suits these short form comics well, as you have enough space to build up a comedic threat but probably not enough space to build up a dramatic one. 15thDoctor View profile Like Liked 1 15 August 2024 · 20 words Review by JayPea Fun story, but nothing particularly grabbing, but hey, what can there be in a 22 page free comic book day issue? The plot is basic but serves the purpose well, which is to show more of the TARDIS in a fun way. It was great to see little bits that have been missed over the years. I enjoyed the art a lot.
