This is exceedingly good and definitely the high point of the series thus far, for multiple reasons. For one, all three main characters get excellent characterization and no one's left in the dust. For another thing, the sci-fi concept in it is engaging and possible to understand (unlike sections of Infinity and Judy Collins) and for another thing it's a story that can only be done in prose, taking full advantage of the medium. It's experimental, character-driven, and has dinosaurs in it. This was a phenomenal time and if anything did too good a job because I felt a vague sense of completion and haven't moved on to the other two whole sections in this anthology in the many months since. My flesh is weak.

Anyway, I'll probably really enjoy the other two sections of Down the Middle, especially if something this good is any indication of what this series can do at it's best.
