We all know the Fifth Doctor loves his cricket so how about having the fate of the world hinge on one of the most famous cricket games ever. The level of detail the story goes into as to how the world becomes so messed up thanks to a botched catch from Graham Dilley is so absurd and so funny yet frighteningly familiar to the world today. And to make matters worse, the change in history stems from interference by the Doctor's former companion Tegan during her travels meaning the Doctor can't get directly involved, leaving it up to Peri and Erimem to help Graham Dilley save the world. It's a fun read, Peri and Erimem are one of my favourite companion duos, separate from one another by whole centuries and cultures yet the best of friends. One of the things I love about Erimem is that she comes from ancient history and is basically a fish out of water character, but not to the degree where she's completely clueless, she does demonstrate a remarkable ability to absorb and understand things beyond her time period, and coming from a different point in history does lead to some great mixing of ideas and viewpoints with the more modern Peri, something I wish the show would have a go at cos ya know, variety would be nice after 20 years!
