It's hopeless, it's bleak, it's atmospheric, it's scary. It might be the bleakest story yet. There's a specific moment in part one, where nyssa is held by the, as yet unknown, entity. its a truly spine chilling moment and sarah sutton really sells the moment. one quote in particular from a later part stands out. nyssa develops a close relationship with matthew, the village reverend who falls in love with her. she rejects him and he later accuses of her being a witch. nyssa is betrayed and hurt but the specific line "matthew, is this all because i said no?" hits HARD, especially with her delivery. the ending is delivered perfectly as well. everything gets tied up and explained. gothoperas View profile Like Liked 1 24 November 2024 · 7 words Review by Rock_Angel 1 Oh she ate that up banger story Rock_Angel View profile Like Liked 1 26 June 2024 · 233 words Review by thedefinitearticle63 Spoilers 1 This review contains spoilers! This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Kingdom of Lies Another absolute banger in the Season 19 Main Range. This story is really clever, bit spooky and great fun. I knew this would be good by the part one cliffhanger. The stakes are high in this story and for once it really seems like the Doctor has fully lost. I was concerned that the story wouldn't get a satisfying resolution given how desperate and hopeless the situation was, thankfully this was not the case. I like the way the Doctor's rescue of the companions was foreshadowed by some of Adric's words. Nyssa had an interesting little romance plot, I think it was really well written and I'm glad that there's finally a character in a historical with a bit of common sense. Atleast, for a while, until he betrays Nyssa which I honestly didn't expect. The companoins getting straight up executed was not something I expected but I had figured out how they would be saved soon after. The ghost Doctor's dynamic with Leanne was quite funny and I enjoy how it was revealed that he was the voice that she was hearing. In general this is a great little adventure, the side characters are fun, the main cast are funner and the villain is exceptionally ominous.
