BRAXIATEL: I understand. Irving Braxiatel is dead. Long live Irving Braxiatel. Shall we begin?

— Irving Braxiatel, Enemy Lines

ACE: High five?

NARVIN: Excuse me?

ACE: High five.

NARVIN: What am I meant to do, exactly?

ACE: It’s an Earth thing. We did a good job so I say high five and we clap hands together.

NARVIN: Oh I see.

ACE: High five! Now down below. Hah! Too slow!

NARVIN: Was that supposed to be funny?

NARVIN: I thought we’d lost you.

ROMANA: No chance of that, Narvin. I’m here to stay.

NARVIN: Romana! But- Leela! But- how’s this… possible? Y-you sent your TARDIS back, I thought... Braxiatel!

BRAXIATEL: Narvin.

NARVIN: But… how… but that’s impossible… I mean… we haven’t seen you in ages… wh-what- how… wh-what the blazes are you doing here?

BRAXIATEL: A pleasure to see you too. Now do stop gibbering.

ROMANA: But this isn’t the end. There’s still a place where we go on. I promise you. This will not be the end. And I’m so sorry that I abandoned you. Forgive me.

LEELA: There is nothing to forgive.

LEELA: I understand, Romana. What is one lifetime compared with so many? Besides, I thought you were meant to be the thinker between us. Now you are thinking with your hearts. That isn’t the Romana I remember. Besides… I am quite looking forward to traveling in a TARDIS again.

— Leela, Enemy Lines

WATCHMAKER: When your people were yet to travel among the stars, I had been wandering between dimensions for a million years. I have twisted the fabric of space itself to create this realm. And you challenge me to unarmed combat?

LEELA: Something is wrong.

ROMANA: It is my fault.

LEELA: So even though you just arrived, the world still revolves around you.

LEELA: The arrogance of the Time Lords. You treat the universe as your chess board and all those creatures – every life form, every race, as… as pieces to be moved around. You ask if I regret my life and as I say, that is not an easy question to answer. Do you think I should regret it?

— Leela, Enemy Lines

LEELA: General Gaal, it is a long way down. I would only have to let go and well… you understand. Most Time Lords would not do that sort of thing. But I am not a Time Lord.

— Leela, Enemy Lines

ACE: You said it yourself. Explosives are my thing.

— Ace, Enemy Lines

LEELA: Oh, we’ve been here before, Romana! No matter how many years I spend on Gallifrey, some Time Lords still consider me nothing but a guest. I’m not welcome here at the best of times.

— Leela, Enemy Lines

GAAL: Tell me, how does a human end up working for the Time Lords?

ACE: Oh a veeerry long story.

GAAL: How about you give me the abridged version?

ACE: Okay… Time storm, milkshake, Time Lord, Daleks, Cheetah people, space fleet.

GAAL: That’s a bit too abridged.

ACE: I did say it was a long story.

LIVIA: Why should I be nervous? Already today, I’ve had to deal with a black hole, a diplomatic crisis, and the murder of a high ranking official. I think putting on a sash might be the least of my worries.

— Livia Caralis, Enemy Lines

ROMANA: Madame President. With all due respect, if I took a week or even a day off for every friend I’ve lost, I wouldn’t get a great deal done.

— Romana II, Enemy Lines

LEELA: But why kill Narvin? Why not you?

ROMANA: Thanks!

LEELA: You understand what I mean. You are now the head of the CIA. You are the one who allowed the Moros to self destruct.

ROMANA: This conversation is doing wonders for my self esteem.

NARVIN: I am being… followed. From the moment I entered the data bank, I sensed it. don’t know who she is - a Time Lord, possibly. But her appearance, dressed in a grey cloak and… the way she moves… almost as if she were gliding. I have never seen anything like it. One thing I do know is that she is following me. I sense a great danger in her presence. I have eluded her so far, but have now found myself in a deeper and more remote part of the data bank, far from any exit. If anything should happen to me and you are listening to this, whoever you are, please find out who she is. This is Deputy Coordinator Narvin… signing off.

— Narvin, Enemy Lines

ACE: So long, Narv! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!

NARVIN: Did she just call me Narv!?

BRAXIATEL: And what makes you think I’ll partake in such a scheme?

LIVIA: Your personality, Irving. For you, duplicity is… well it’s a kind of hobby really. The kind of service you’d quite happily provide free of charge. Besides, I’m not asking you to assassinate anyone, or jettison them into the time vortex. I’m talking about a little light espionage.

ACE: Wait. This sounds like I’m being put on the naughty step. What have I done?

NARVIN: The naughty-? Honestly sometimes I wonder if our translation circuits are faulty.

ACE: Don’t call me ma’am. Makes me sound like an old biddy. Call me Ace. Soundproof you say? So that means I can call him a treasonous little toe rag and he won’t hear me?

— Ace, Enemy Lines

LEELA: It felt like punishment. Those moments when I thought you had abandoned me like… exile.

ROMANA: I didn’t abandon you. I thought I was saving you.

NARVIN: How long, Romana? How long have you been planning to take my place? To usurp my position as the head of the CIA?

ROMANA: Don’t you think you’re over-reacting a little?

NARVIN: So that’s it. I’m just supposed to accept all this as if it was another day at the office?

ROMANA: Day at the-?

NARVIN: Office. One of Agent Ace’s Earth idioms.

LEELA: I often wonder how my life would have turned out if he had not come.

ROMANA: Who?

LEELA: The Doctor, of course. All of time and space to voyage but he came to my world at that exact moment. If he had come to us a century before my time or after it. Perhaps he would have taken someone else.

ROMANA: But he didn’t. He took you.

LEELA: But if he had not. Perhaps I would have become old. One of the elders of my tribe. Or… or perhaps I would have remained banished and died alone in some forgotten cave. Anyways, I would have passed long ago and I would have seen so little. Experienced so little.

ROMANA: So it was you following me. You were here the whole time.

LEELA: I thought you might need some help.

ROMANA: But I said- I told you, I had to do this alone.

LEELA: And I said I thought you were being foolish. And I meant it.

NARVIN: One thing I have learnt, Ace, in my very long life is that almost all of us, regardless of rank, are expendable. I suppose it was only a matter of time before I was deemed surplus to requirements.

— Narvin, Enemy Lines
