I usually enjoy Goss’ work, but sadly the opening to this event is a bit of a let-down. The characters don’t really grab me, which is something I want when I’m starting something new, as this would have ensured I’d have something to look forward to in each installment. I’m still a bit confused as to why Doom is going to die, but maybe that will be explained better later on in the event. Overall, Hour One is a slightly intriguing, but also underwhelming, opening to the Doom’s Day event. I am always a fan of mundane and exciting events being pressed up against each other in fiction, so Terri the office worker (/ assassin coordinator) is a great character for that. I like the idea of a whole planet being created as cover for a single office. I have absolutely no doubt that this stories’ reputation comes under fire because of the multi-media event’s overall lacklustre nature, and of course, the terrible launch video. I’d encourage people to give it a chance. 15thDoctor View profile Like Liked 2 26 October 2024 · 141 words Review by MrColdStream Spoilers 3 This review contains spoilers! 📝7/10 = ENJOYABLE! Dooming through time and space, one hour at a time! FIRST IMPRESSIONS: “HOUR 1” James Goss kicks off this multimedia event with a short story that covers all the basics. We are introduced to assassin Doom (working for the Lesser Order of Oberon, the same company Brian the Ood works for in Time Lord Victorious) as she realises that she is dying. She has 24 hours to find the Doctor and allow him to save her. I enjoy the simple humour sprinkled throughout and the depiction of a very dull and grey company personified in the bored company booker Terri. The story jumps between Doom talking with Terri about her current pickle and the botched mission leading up to it. An undisclosed (but old) incarnation of the Doctor pops up briefly before Doom is sent to the Stormcage for her next mission.
