You can tell Bonnie Langford had a lot of fun with this and that she really loves Mel as a character, and it's so nice getting an entire book dedicated to her and expanding on her as a person. illyriashade56 View profile Like Liked 0 31 March 2025 · 197 words Review by kevinwho 4 A light read, perfectly suited to my otherwise taxed brain. Just when I was really starting to wonder why it was described as a murder mystery, there was finally a mysterious murder. Takes quite a while to get to that point in the story! The main downside of the book for me is that I never really got invested in any of the suspects. They're all introduced together, and though they're distinguished by their jobs, I never felt like I really got to know any of them as people. Yet, despite not really caring who the murderer would turn out to be - without enough sense of the individuals, I wasn't really actively trying to deduce who it might be - despite that, I rather liked the reveal and resolution. One thing I really enjoyed was the work it put into the relationship between Mel and Glitz. On TV, it didn't make much sense to me that Mel would elect to travel with Glitz, or that he would let her join him either. It all becomes a lot more believable here, with the characters recognizing their very different worldviews and accepting each other for who they are. kevinwho View profile Like Liked 4 12 January 2025 · 144 words Review by Guardax 1 I wasn't really able to get into this book. First off, the plot line in the first third is almost completely divorced from the eventual murder mystery that gets set-up. The main issue though is (and I can recognize this as a beginner writer myself) that the prose is quite simple and straightforward. Once the murder mystery gets set-up, we're given a ton of characters all at once and have to remember them all. Still, it was fun to have a whole novel dedicated to Mel, who is in the midst of renaissance in the 2020s. It was very sweet that Bonnie Langford put in tons of references to her career too. Honestly, I bet if I listened to her narrated audiobook I would've like it better. It's a fine read, but nothing special unless you want some Mel and Glitz in your life.
