This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Warzone Big Finish is absolutely incredible at giving old characters on TV new life on audio, most notably, they've done it with some of the Doctors who didn't get a full era on TV. 5 is one of the exceptions in that he did get a full era and therefore I don't think people talk about the character development Big Finish has given him. But that doesn't mean it isn't there This Doctor is like nothing we've seen on TV, he's no longer passive and (arguably) boring, he's relentless, vengeful, and played with a level of emotion you couldn't have dreamed on 80s TV. They mention Adric a lot, probably to balance how little he was mentioned on the show. While I'd normally complain and find it a bit ridiculous how often he's brought up, this story handles it perfectly and it's a great character study of all the characters. Marc is a character who has barely appeared before this but already feels like a core member of the team, I'm really glad after two fairly disappointing stories in the last release he's not being sidelined anymore. This story has recontextualised cyber-conversion for me, it was already horrifying but it's certainly jumped up a level. The cast are all phenomenal. Peter Davison and Janet Fielding's chemistry is a major part of this story and completely recognisable despite how alien the situation their characters are in is. David Banks as the Cyber Leader is great and I'm glad he wasn't forced to say "excellent" every other word as it's one of the things I could never take seriously. Overall this story caps off an excellent (pun intended) release, one that really explores the horrors of cyber-converson and the feelings and emotions of the TARDIS team. For the Fifth Doctor non-believers, this is one I thoroughly recommend as I personally think it's an outstanding example of the Fifth Doctor at his best.
