The third story in the commemorative anthology for the 100th release of the main line of BIG FINISH called Main Range, "Bedtime Story" arrives bringing a sudden break in the comedic tone that until then was predominant in the previous audios of "100". Evelyn reunites with one of her former students, Jacob, who is gathered with his family mourning the recent death of his father. Through conversations, we learn from the young man himself about the existence of a supposed curse that consists of every time a new heir is born in the family, the grandparents of the baby end up dying in the following days - Joseph Lidster perfectly fulfills his proposal of disturbing terror with a very surgical writing, shocking his listener in the most impactful and heavy ways possible, each advanced minute of his plot has numerous twists and very smart and well-positioned plot twists. He remains enigmatic from the first to the last minute, creating doubts and more doubts at various moments of the story to the point of even causing a certain anxiety and nervousness in the listener amid all a suspense filled with mysteries and suspicions. Joseph Lidster had an excellent job in writing each of his characters avoiding exaggerations and mainly loose ends, in addition to having one of the best performances by Maggie Stables on the microphones of BIG FINISH. Bedtime Story ends in a way different from what we are used to with a small, very dark and macabre twist (in a good sense) that causes strong chills down the spine. In summary, it is very likely that this will win the title of best story of the anthology, for its perfectionist details and the great impact.

This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order.

Previous Story: My Own Private Wolfgang

I found this pretty weak if I'm being honest. I can see why people would like it but it personally bored me quite a bit and it feels generic. There's interesting ideas here that suffer from the fact that it's only 30 minutes long. The main reveal that Evelyn was possessed or whatever didn't surprise me all that much though I did enjoy Maggie Stables' performance when she switched from Evelyn to the monster. Not the worst but could have been better.

Fun adventure exploring generational trauma. Colin Baker is, as always, excellent as the Doctor, and Evelyn (played by Maggie Stables) is quickly becoming one of my favourite companions! Definently recommend, although the ending may seem a little too bleak for some listeners
