Tendo suas histórias antecessoras situadas no passado da Terra, é chegado o momento de Mary Shelley vivenciar sua primeira aventura em um cenário puramente sci-fi em um outro mundo. Infelizmente Army Of Death ficou longe de corresponder as minhas expectativas ainda mais se tratando da última aventura da autora ao lado do 8° Doutor – O enredo de Jason Arnopp se inicia apostando todas as fichas em conceitos e ideias semelhantes ao de The Deadly Assassin (Arco do 4° Doutor) nos inserindo no meio de uma situação alarmante no planeta “Draxine” após ter seu Presidente assassinado por uma habitante chamada “Nia” e uma cidade chamada Garrak ter sido aniquilada por uma explosão apocalítica. Reunidos em uma cidade vizinha chamada “Stronghaven” os líderes junto a população tentam estabelecer os novos rumos políticos do planeta através de uma conferência pública também requerendo que a justiça seja feita á suposta assassina - Se envolvendo nesse cenário o 8° Doutor e Mary acabam descobrindo coisas que trazem uma visão diferente do relatado sobre a tragédia – Assim mm busca de mais respostas, os dois vão rumo ao coração da cidade de Garrak se deparando com “Nia” e também um exército de esqueletos marchando em direção a Stronghaven liderados por uma figura misteriosa. Fazendo um contraste com The Deadly Assasin é difícil ter o mesmo envolvimento e interesse nos problemas e na política de um planeta qualquer e desconhecido, não temos nenhuma carga, contato ou estrutura base significativa de Draxine, então não funciona como Gallifrey ou Peladon. Acho que o escritor teria mais sucesso se relata-se a tragedia que antecedeu a crise, assim existiria a possibilidade de um envolvimento de seu ouvinte, e se não bastasse o fator desinteresse, isso ainda se une a uma narrativa bem monótona e chata cheio de personagens secundários sem nenhuma profundidade. Army Of Death também demonstra estar um pouco desconexa de suas histórias anteriores, como por exemplo não ter fortes plot twists visto em The Silver Turk e The Witch From The Well, até mesmo a temática gótica assustadora que SIM, esqueletos podem ser medonhos, mas eles acabaram não sendo por conta da forma superficial reproduzida, ficou algo bobo esqueletos carregando armas futurísticas. Mas o maior deslize de Jason Arnopp ainda se tratando dessa desconexão, está no desenvolvimento de personagem da Mary Shelley que já começa a história demonstrando estar confusa e apaixonada pelo Doutor, além de não existir um indício se quer nos áudios anteriores, Mary sempre demonstrou ter muita saudade e amor pelo seu marido Percy Shelley, então esses sentimentos da companion ficam sem sentido nenhum foi algo do nada - Em The Witch From The Well, a personagem afirmou sua personalidade empoderada de uma mulher que sabe cuidar de si mesma, mesmo estando 200 anos atrás de seu próprio futuro, já em Army Of Death tem um comportamento mais acolhido visando mais seus sentimentos e pensamentos do que a própria aventura em si, tipo... Só pensar um pouco, diante de um mundo assustador e medonho, com exércitos de fantasmas esqueléticos, espíritos vivos de pessoas mortas, armas que podem destruir cidades inteiras, veículos que podem voar... A Mary passa o tempo todo pensando e falando, escrevendo apenas sobre seus sentimentos confusos e apaixonados pelo 8° Doutor ...Como assim??? Isso não faz sentido, sabe ksksks. Por mais que cronologicamente essa trilogia vem ANTES das aventuras do 8° Doutor com a Charley, tendo seu lançamento depois, podemos SIM considerar isso como uma repetição do mesmo sentimento que ocorreu com a Charley, só no caso de Army Of Death é algo beeeem mal feito. Rapidamente falando nos últimos minutos da companion na TARDIS, na verdade É, e NÃO é uma despedida, o fim deixa em aberto a possibilidade de Mary continuar viajando com o Doutor, ela apenas diz que vai pedir a ele para leva-la de volta ao seu tempo, mas não vemos isso acontecer pois somos cortados pelo tema de encerramento. E pra finalizar essa BOMBA ksksks, temos um vilão gigante tosco que persegue o Doutor aos gritos de “Doutooor cadê vocêêê??”, “Eu vou te pegar Dooooutor”, “Doutooooorr”, faz-me o favor vai.
