I had an alright time with A Girl Called Doubt.  I enjoyed the setting and tone of this particular story.  We really get a sense and feel of what a world is like after a war with the Cybermen.  Everything is gone and Doubt, the main character of this story, and her squad are left to pick through the rubble as their people try to find a way forward.

It's pretty good.  We get a decent twist around Doubt's character too.  For some reason though, I feel like this story should have hit me more emotionally than it really did.  I kind of got bored with the idea after a while.

One thing I do really appreciate about The Wintertime Paradox is there is a lot of casual queerness in the book.  The unnamed main character in the We Will Feed You to the Trees story appears to have been a lesbian woman, while, if I recall correctly, a character on Doubt's squad is gender neutral.  Dave Rubben is a pretty solid writer overall and has a good handle on the Doctor Who universe.  It really helps carry stories - even ones like this that didn't quite connect with me as much as others.  I've been praising Sophie Aldred's narration on the audiobook, too, but it's around here in the middle anthologies that she doesn't feel quite as engaged as in some of the other stories I liked a little more in this anthology, though that could easily be a subjective effect on my part.
