TARDIS Guide

Perfect.

From the moment they land on the ship, everything builds perfectly to its conclusion. The atmosphere, and building dread, oozes through the screen, pulling us in, and investing us into the mystery of the empty ship. The setting is used so well, the threat of no TARDIS and Sonic Screwdriver - it builds perfectly.

The ship itself looks so immense, that the setting feels so real. We progress through the story, and we see the Doctor and Donna's chemistry, radiating in bucket loads - just fantastic. No duo are as perfectly suited as these two, and in quiet character moments, this is demonstrated at its best in this episode.

Then the Not Things are introduced, and these are probably the best creatures the show has given in a long time. Body horror, and bizarre surrealism blended perfectly to give a wonderfully terrifying villain. Again, stunning performances from Tennant and Tate, and seeing antagonistic versions of these characters play against characters we know and love is truly wonderful.

As the conclusion realises, I love that the Doctor doesn't really effect the outcome - the explosion is planned before them, but the enjoyment from learning what is inevitable, and reaching this, is brilliant.

Music wise, there are beautiful motifs to Gold's earlier work, which are so poignant, especially within the character moments, to remind us why we love them so.

Its perfect, and we need a lot more like this.
