Where’s the Doctor? is a fun comic strip in two parts, featured in the 2019 Annual. It’s ostensibly a 13th Doctor story but actually features all the incarnations with various companions and, as a consequence, it’s hugely entertaining.
An assassin, Eva De Ville, is sent after the Doctor and tracks them down to Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953. But all 13 incarnations are there dealing with a variety of different alien threats.
The strip is frame after frame of fun with the assassin believing these other incarnations are merely bystanders getting in her way whilst she stops the various alien menaces from interfering with her mission.
The artwork is great and the hustle and bustle of the coronation is depicted well. That said, there’s not a huge feeling of time and place with it actually all feeling rather modern. The ending of the story is also rather odd with it being revealed Queen Elizabeth is actually a lizard alien. It ties the story into real life conspiracy theories and leaves a slightly off-kilter weird taste to the story which, up to that point, was really entertaining.
It’s also a bit odd to know that the 10th Doctor and Rose are elsewhere dealing with the Wire at the same time.
But overall a vibrant, fun comic strip for all the Doctors!
