Both six times shorter and six times better than Trial of a Time Lord, the Doctor is once more brought before the courtroom of the Time Lords but this time his role is counsel for the defence, his client being the very man who served as prosecutor for his trial. Much as I'm not a big fan of Trial of a Time Lord, this is a perfect sequel that in many ways is a love letter to the original with Colin Baker, Michael Jayston and Lynda Bellingham bringing their A game in a story that delves into the Valeyard's backstory and offers much rich and interesting ideas into Time Lord lore and how the Valeyard came to be. With a twist at the end that a lot of it may have been smoke and mirrors but it still leaves you feeling satisfied by what it hints at. It's such an engaging listen from start to finish and my favourite Valeyard story.
