Previous Story: Scavenger
Another banger from Nev Fountain. I really like his style of writing, it almost feels Douglas Adams-y. This story is where they finally decided to go back to Mindwarp and fix all the issues with that story. It's even fixed Peri's weird decision to marry King Yrcanos by revealing that it wasn't her all along and Crozier's mind-transfer experiment succeeded.
I love this story's approach to the Doctor's character. I'm normally not a fan of when they add needless backstory to the Doctor but the idea that the Doctor had an imaginary enemy instead of an imaginary friend is just so in line with his character. Using this as a metaphor for his loneliness was the cherry on top of a beautifully written piece of lore.
It's great to hear the Doctor finally reunite with Peri, having them swap minds and play out each other's characters is something you could only do with a pair with as much chemistry as Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant. I really love how the scenes in Peri's mind where she meets with the Doctor's "subconscious" address the harsher elements of Sixie's TV characterisation.
Absolutely brilliant, there's so much in this story to talk about and I genuinely think everyone who enjoys the 6/Peri TARDIS team should seek it out.
