Review of The True Saviour Of The Universe by DanDunn

10 April 2025

The True Saviour of the Universe concludes the Unbound Universe story arc very strongly as the Doctor is placed on trial and his presidency is impeached. All while Benny is forced into an uneasy alliance with the Master to uncover a conspiracy to sway the voters against the Doctor. David Warner does a fantastic job conveying how exhausted and angered he is by the universe he was made president of and how they treat him after everything he's done for them. It's a great ending how he basically just leaves the universe with Benny and lets them reap what they've sown, but of course being the Doctor he gives them one parting gift to keep them safe. We also get a great performance from Mark Gatiss as the Master, basically think Gatiss's performance as the Bank Manager of Bravos in Game of Thrones and that's pretty much how he plays the Master. He doesn't exactly come across as dangerous as his other incarnations but he uses his charm and charisma in order to get his way. It's quite an intense political thriller as we build to a great twist on who's orchestrated this whole affair and how the Doctor manages to return Benny home at the cost of never being able to return to his own universe.
