Thworping through time and space, one adventure at a time!
This time: it takes Poe to Halloween!
MY SCATTERED AND TOTALLY IRRELEVANT NOTES:
The opening story in the Big Finish Short Trips anthology Zodiac delivers an atmospheric blend of horror and supernatural intrigue. Framed as a tale penned by Edgar Allan Poe, the narrative intertwines the renowned writer with the Doctor, Ian, Barbara, and a host of other characters.
The plot is straightforward yet chillingly effective, with a creeping sense of dread throughout. The story’s authorship remains a mystery until the conclusion, where it is revealed to be Poe’s final work before his untimely illness and death.
While the Doctor plays a relatively minor role, serving more as a supporting figure alongside the others, the core of the tale shines in its homage to classic horror. The demonic power threatening to be unleashed through a young girl is left shrouded in mystery, but the story’s commitment to the best elements of traditional gothic horror ensures this ambiguity only enhances its eerie charm.
