“KILLER HUSKY DOGS!”
The Teeth of Ice brings back reporter James MacFarlane and the 8th Doctor once again, but this time, Andrew Lane brings us a base-under-siege story set in Antarctica. The icy winds and severe cold of the setting, coupled with the research base and its crew, bring to mind John Carpenter's The Thing or the 1967 2nd Doctor story The Ice Warriors.
Storywise, this is a pretty familiar base-under-siege, but it flows better than the two previous BBC Audios by Lane, mostly thanks to the setting. While the previous stories dealt with vampires and zombies, here we meet a take on werewolves (they look like huskies!), and they make for believable foes. The Doctor works well here, MacFarlane is pretty likeable, and the other characters don’t leave much of an impression.
One of the supporting characters is given a voice that sounds a bit too much like Strax, and it’s distracting.
The last act makes for quite a tense ride through the snow and ice, followed by an explosive climax.
