The First Doctor #33

'The Splintered Gate' (2003) from Short Trips: Companions.

My first First Doctor story without actually any mention of him at all, as this is a little Ian-centric story detailing his skepticism prior to meeting The Doctor. On paper I was excited for this, although doesn't really work to any end however, riddled with some strange mystery that goes nowhere about there being two fortune tellers and one (or are they the same person) of them having previously spoken to Barbara as well. The ending especially is rather frustrating in it's lack of any kind of sense to what else is going on, adding to the mystery of whether the fortune teller was speaking truthfully or whether they were in fact just a scammer. Unfortunately ends my Season 0.5 reading with quite a whimper and not a bang.
