I kept on having to actively remind myself that Noonan is playing the first Doctor, as bar from a handful of successful vocal tics I’m just not hearing it at all. Or even a vague interpretation of it.

The direction is (imo, of course) whack, with all parts dialled up to 11 and in full panto mode. I’m not a purist at heart and love to see a new spin on things but it doesn’t feel even in the same ballpark as a first Doctor story to me. I’m sure I’m in the minority. I love Rufus Hound in other things but not here, so I do think it’s a direction thing rather than the cast.
