This was my first Battle in Time comic, having stumbled into the series thanks to the Time-Space Randomizer. It was pretty fun, even though it clearly has some plot threads coming in and out of the four-page comic, as these Battle in Time stories are apparently linked across each issue of the magazine they were published in. In spite of that the story holds up remarkably well all on its own. Rose and the Doctor come to this alien library where people are being infected by these green ghosts that are zombies of a sort. They menace the Doctor having learned about him over what they call the "computer net" before he uploads a bunch of boring books into their brain, which kills them.
For something this short, it's fine. Stuff like the "computer net" line felt a little awkward and clunky, but I liked the use of the books to defeat the aliens. Writer Stephen Cole even snuck in a funny little dig against the Web Planet thanks to that.
Which leads me to an interesting side of The Macrobe Menace. While these comics are clearly intended for a younger audience, with brighter colours, simpler drawing, and even arrows to guide young readers from panel to panel, there's also stuff in here that any Doctor Who fan can enjoy, at least a little. I really don't feel it was that bad of a comic, especially compared to how some of these other off-beat publications can be.
