"The Lumiat: Missy Meets Her Match"

Volume 2 of Missy kicks off with The Lumiat, a playful and engaging tale that delivers an intriguing twist to the Master’s mythology. The story begins with Missy, as mischievous as ever, wreaking havoc after crafting her own TARDIS and picking up a hilariously inept companion. However, her schemes are continually thwarted by a mysterious female character whom Missy assumes to be the Doctor.

It’s soon revealed that this woman is, in fact, the Lumiat—the Master’s sole incarnation driven by pure goodness. The narrative unfolds as Missy desperately attempts to rid herself of the Lumiat while devising increasingly chaotic plans to catch the Doctor’s attention. Meanwhile, the Lumiat is on her own mission: to prove that beneath Missy’s wickedness lies the potential for redemption, the very spark that could one day lead to her own existence.

The interplay between Michelle Gomez and Gina McKee is the heart of this story. Gomez delivers her trademark blend of sass and chaos, while McKee shines as the serene and compassionate Lumiat, creating a fascinating dynamic between the two. McKee’s portrayal makes the idea of a benevolent Master not only believable but deeply compelling.

📝Verdict: 8/10

The Lumiat is a fun and thought-provoking exploration of the Master’s duality, filled with clever dialogue and memorable performances that keep the listener hooked from start to finish.
