I’m always charmed by Jago and Litefoot and their wonderful performances. This is certainly not the last I’ll hear of them, their box sets are, in my opinion, well worth the investment and are one of the finest things to come out of Big Finish’s output.

It’s such a pleasure to hear them interacting with their amiable attempts of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, and a relief that this story features a genuinely meaty and exciting villain. The antagonist is distinctive. I enjoyed the concept of Jago unwittingly asking the devil for help in his youth, only for time to catch up with him and demand repayment. The fact that the Doctor—or Doctors—arrive in his hour of need is exactly what you’d hope for.

When Jago and Litefoot are given a great villain and a strong story, everything just clicks perfectly.

I loved the touch of setting this during the Tenth Doctor’s pre-regeneration. The idea that Jago and Litefoot might be among the people he visits during his final round of goodbyes is so romantic and joyful.
