I seem to be in the minority of readers that found The Highest Science a bit boring, but I did find it fairly unengaging until the last 80 or so pages. Definitely some interesting concepts going on, the Chelonians are a well fleshed out race, I enjoyed Benny at the start of the novel and when she was with the Doctor. But overall I found that I was just bored for most of the novel.
The last 80 pages were the highlight though. I greatly enjoyed Sheldukher as an antagonist and the exploration of the city at the end, also the grim nature of the story where pretty much everyone dies by the end, but there is still plenty of humour to be had as there often is in Roberts work.
I always struggle a bit with his work due to his transphobic views, however the somewhat genderless nature of the Chelonians makes me wonder how he holds such views, and it's not the first time I've encountered something gender non-conforming in his work that makes me wonder how he holds such views.
In the end this is a well written adventure, one that did not click with me but there is certainly come good stuff and interesting ideas here.
