I read this because I wanted to understand Juno Dawson's writing before she writes her episode. This lives up to being one of 13's best stories and I definitely think it should've been an episode. Dawson creates a very controversial situation where a religion takes advantage of it's power and creates a patriarchy and racist society. I think the highlights of this book is the progressive writing that Dawson accomplishes and her perfect use of the 13th Doctor and her companions. The Doctor very much feels like Jodie Whittaker's Doctor and Dawson gives her some pretty good lines that she deserved in her first season. Graham is great in this, he's funny and put in a situation that he really can't deal with but it's entertaining to see him trying. Yaz is put with the oppressed people of the planet and she gets some good highlights from this. Ryan is used very well too I'd say. He doesn't play any role in the show aside from a couple episodes and honestly sucks as a companion, but here, I think he was a pretty memorable part of the book. I especially liked when Dawson used the fact that Ryan is black, a minority, and has experience with discrimination to show Ryan understanding what's going on before anyone else does. I think the only negative from this book was how extreme a couple of the new characters go to push the plot. Still a good book tho :)
