Previous Story: Legend of the Cybermen
This is a refreshingly unique Dalek story. I suppose having Davros helps that but even then that's not always a guarantee that it'll be good. Even though I guessed the twist almost immediately, it was still a good surprise and something that rarely gets done in Doctor Who. Colin Baker and Terry Molloy's performances here are on another level. Having to play each other's characters inhabiting their own characters' bodies must have been a real challenge and they pulled it off marvelously.
The Napoleon stuff brings down this story in my opinion, it feels quite disjointed from the rest of the narrative and a really forced way to make this story into a pseudo-historical. I just didn't care for it at all apart from the scene at the end where Napoleon accepts that he has to lose and quotes ABBA.
We have a new companion here in the form of Flip Jackson. She technically appeared already in The Crimes of Thomas Brewster but I barely remember what happened in that story. I like that she's a very down-to-earth character so far, reminiscent of the RTD era companions (definitely an inspiration). Lisa Greenwood's performance is pretty good though I'm not sure whether I'll like or dislike Flip as of right now.
