Our first short story for this year is from The Ghosts of Christmas collection from Big Finish. It's a rather nice tale with the Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan arriving in London in the middle of an air raid in WW2. It's an interesting time to drop Ian and Barbara in as it would have been within their living memory. It's not something Doctor Who would probably have ever done at the time, with it being in such recent memory, but now, with enough time having passed, it works. The writer, Scott Matthewman (what a great name), handles it well by having Barbara confront the memories and the 'monsters' of the piece head on. The Christmas element is gentle but well-placed and there's a conclusion which could have been twee, but manages to be heartwarming. I liked this one.
