A last outing with Bilis Manger. This one is a lovely inversion of most of Bilis's outings, in that it is not Bilis with the behind the scenes plan, but the character of the week. Most of the play builds up the tension with some very uncomfortable scenes and gives you some red herrings to keep you guessing, after which a conclusion is reached that at least surprised me. A fitting end. The red herrings were very effective, and now at the end of it I wonder how much of it was planned and how much of it was real (by and for Samantha).
I liked the dynamic between Samantha and 'Bill'. I don't really know what the boyfriend added to this play, however, except for Bill to sneer at him (which this play has very little of, compared to other plays like Dead Man's Switch). Perhaps he was a red herring, but he is eventually just forgotten about, which is somewhat unsatisfying.
The sound design was mostly good, except for one scene where two car doors are slammed with exactly the same sound, after which we are treated to off-sounding gravel footsteps.
