Previous Story: The Five Companions

I really like Paul Magrs' work, his stuff is quite campy and meta and this is no exception. The character of Huxley is absolutely genius for a story with the Companion Chronicle format and no one could pull this story off better than Turlough himself, Mark Strickson. I'll never get bored of hearing his impression of Tegan. The way it almost sounds like mockery is so in-character for Turlough.

Stories that lean towards the more experimental side are very enjoyable but I think this is a case where it might be a bit too experimental. There's so much focus on Turlough and Huxley narrating here that the actual plot becomes really difficult to follow. Once the dynamic between Huxley and Turlough is explained, it gets fairly boring pretty fast and it's just Turlough being constantly annoyed. It's funny, but you can only hear it so much.

Despite all that though, this is still a deeply interesting story that's left me with a lot to think about. It helps that Mark Strickson is a fabulous narrator and really comes into his own when he plays the shifty side of Turlough.
