Review of Retail Therapy by Smallsey

I'd been relatively underwhelmed by the rest of this series. But honestly, this story was good fun.

Jackie has been selling novelty, pink eggs that make people sleep well and feel better. At first I thought this was too similar to the Adipose. It is similar but it does differentiate itself in a couple of ways. Firstly although it's alien tech being used, the Glubby Glubs aren't aliens and are not part of any alien plot. It's just greedy humans. Secondly they don't take away people's fat, but their life energy. This might sound similar to the Adipose but the difference is that the Glubby Glubs are actually a pyramid scheme. They take the life energy from the customers (resulting in them dying a couple of years sooner than they would naturally) and gives it the seller, but passing it on all the up the owner of the company. An old man in a 20-somethings body.

It's a silly, small scale story, but sometimes I want that in my Doctor Who. They can't all be giant universe ending epics. But the story being small also allows a lot of space for Jackie to have some lovely character moments with both Rose and the Doctor. It's nice to hear Rose being proud of her mum. Yes Jackie is still a pretty comedic character, but she does have a big heart and this episode allows that to be on full display.
