A rare World War I historical story, it starts to set the groundwork of Hex's character development throughout his time in the TARDIS. It's a character piece first and foremost, largely focusing on Hex and exploring his relationship with Ace and the Doctor. It's a very solid story throughout, and one of the better Doctor Who historicals out there thanks to its lesser-used setting.
