"NO FUN AT THE FAIR: A BRIEF ENCOUNTER WITH A LONE SLITHEEN"

This short adventure follows Rose and the Ninth Doctor as they visit a funfair, only to encounter a lone Slitheen up to some mischief. However, the story never fully develops its premise, offering only a surface-level glimpse at what could have been an engaging setting and plot.

ROSE TAKES CENTRE STAGE

While the Doctor is present, his role is minimal, bookending the story rather than actively driving it. Instead, the focus remains on Rose as she navigates the fairgrounds and deals with the alien threat. While this isn’t necessarily a bad approach, it doesn’t leave much room for dynamic storytelling, especially given the story’s brevity.

A LACKLUSTRE CHASE AND RESOLUTION

The chase through the fairground attractions is disappointingly short-lived, lacking the tension and creativity that could have made it a memorable sequence. Similarly, the way the Slitheen is ultimately defeated feels uninspired, even if it does lean into some graphic imagery. With a bit more time and effort, this could have been a much more entertaining and suspenseful encounter.

VERDICT: A CARNIVAL OF MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

A fleeting and ultimately forgettable tale, No Fun at the Fair never fully capitalises on its setting or antagonist. While it’s always fun to see Rose taking charge, the lack of depth and a rushed resolution make this an underwhelming entry in her adventures.
