Review of Night of the Whisper by Owen

30 April 2024

Feels exactly like an episode of series 1. Which is cool, but man it just went on and on and it was just too much the usual NuWho melodrama. Very impressive how much alike it is to the tv-series, but that does not improve its score.

It’s not bad. Maybe it was the whiplash from Enemy Aliens to this, classic to new, that made me not like it very much originally. But after listening to the other NuWho stories in Destiny Of The Doctor, I gotta say it is absolutely the best of the three.
Still below pretty much all the classic who stories in the series though.

The vibes of the city are great. You just feel it. The city in the night, but never dark, the lights everywhere always kept on. With vigilantes jumping and running over the buildings. Some inhabited by people, some filled with non stop working officials which in turn are filled with corruption by the criminal activity that you feel running along the Whisper throughout the city. It never feels save and simultaneously it does. The city somehow gives a sense of warmth and a place to be home, as we get to know the guest characters like they are actual people, with this city as their place to live.
Basically. The vibes are immaculate, as one would say these days.

To be honest that’s kinda my only reason for liking it. It just feels great. Like I said, the story itself is a bunch of annoying NuWho melodrama. But at least the melodrama was in a banging setting.
