NOTES & COMMENTS:
The TARDIS transports the Doctor, Harry, and Naomi to an alien planet in Metamorphosis, where a girl has lost her father due to his imprisonment by the Crispy Master. Geoffrey Beevers is back playing the character he has perfected over the years.
The main point of the story is that neither Naomi nor Harry have met the Master and don’t know who he is, so they unknowingly help him complete his plans. Beevers convincingly portrays these parts, and the knowledge of his identity enhances the tension.
Lydia West takes on a more traditional companion role as Cahlo. She is good, but her character is annoying. Nick Briggs comes and goes, making it easy to forget his presence in the story.
This story is a slightly slower one, and it builds up to the meeting between the Doctor and the Master with little fanfare. The Master’s plan is quite the standard fare, making for a very streamlined plot. The Master hypnotizes Harry and uses him as a tool to force the Doctor to activate a metamorphosis that would give the Master a new body.
